We love our partnership with Christians Against Poverty and we love every person we have met and got to know through our CAP Debt Centre, which we have run since 2012.
CAP’s already high national profile was rocketed last week following a Friday night prime time BBC 2 documentary; ‘The Debt Saviours’. If you missed it you can catch up on iPlayer – it’s well worth a watch! . The national impact of CAP was also demonstrated last week with the London School of Economics publishing the results of its extensive research. It found that CAP’s overall contribution to society can be valued at an astonishing £31.5 million per annum.
For some time as a church we have felt that we would love to increase what we do through CAP. We already have 4 church partners and 4 Debt Coaches in our Debt Centre and have seen many people break out of debt through it. But Debt Counselling is only one of the strings to CAP’s far-reaching bow, and earlier this year we started praying and exploring what it would look like to start one of CAP’s group services in one of our sites.
So here’s the breaking news: Next month we will be launching CAP Life Skills in Bearwood!!
CAP Life Skills is a friendly group that gives people the confidence and decision making skills they need to survive life on a low income. It teaches practical money saving techniques, such as cooking on a budget, living healthily on less, and making your money go further. Click here for more info.
The first course will start in early 2019, but we will officially launching the service at Churchcentral West on Sunday 11th November.
We look forward to being able to offer another excellent CAP service and we hope that alongside our Debt Centre we will see many more people helped out of the effects of poverty in the coming years.
